Red Ribbon Week

A Research-Based Drug Abuse Prevention Program for Red Ribbon Week | Continued Education

What is Red Ribbon Week?

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States (October 23-October 31). Red Ribbon Week began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985. According to the United States DEA, Red Ribbon Week is the nation's largest and longest-running drug awareness campaign. There is not a specific curriculum used for Red Ribbon Week, but schools across the country engage in a number of activities, things like “Wear Red Day,” or wear red ribbons to celebrate the Red Ribbon Week.
